Amazing Discovery...And The Amazing ISS...And The Amazing Sun...

Below is yet another cool (and extremely lucky) photograph by an amateur astronomer, courtesy my new favourite site, www.universetoday.com

What you're seeing is sunspot activity taken with a sun filtered telescope. Personally, I'm always impressed that we can take this kind of picture. Now, as cool as that is, there's just a little more to the image and the story.

What makes it cool is that little extra bit that they've broken out for you. That's the International Space Station and the just undocked Discovery Space Shuttle there on the left as they transit the sun. What's more than a little amazing is that the picture is pure luck (the photographer was after sun spot activity and didn't know that the ISS was going to be there), made more amazing by the fact that the ISS's transit of the sun takes less than half a second.
