It's 12:10 AM (EDT) on August 6, 2012. I'm watching NASA TV as they are shutting off the transmitter that is the last link to the spacecraft carrying Curiosity to Mars. From here on in, the spacecraft is on its own and years of work rests on the spacecraft's abiltiy to guide itself to landing.
I have butterflies in my tummy. I'm exhausted, sleepy and I work tomorrow. And I'm not going to sleep until I know how this turns out.
Science is just awesome.

"Touchdown confirmed. We're safe on Mars."
Goodnight folks and pleasant extra-terrestrial dreams to all.
