Unless you've been living under a very large and media free rock, you're aware that there's a new Star Wars film out in the universe. You might also know that I dislike crowded and/or child filled theaters and therefore try to go to a Sunday night late show when possible. For The Force Awakens, I had to wait several weeks but I finally got to see it last night. No crowd, no kids.
You'd think that'd be great.
You would be incorrect.
Four other people in the theater. Sitting at the very back when I walked in and keeping up a constant chatter through the previews. Irritating but none of the previews were for movies I'm at all looking forward to, so I give a pass. What doesn't get a pass is the chatter continuing into the movie. And it did.
I have, it turns out, reached that critical point in my life where I just can't take this kind of thing anymore. One vs. four? Don't care. I turned and gave 'em the "It's quiet time now!" in my best "I don't take shit from punks" voice.
Guess what?
Pretty much perfect silence for two hours plus.
As much as I enjoyed the movie, that little bit of self assertion was the best part of the night.
Anyhow, I won't bore you with a review. There are plenty out there if you want the skinny on the film. I will say I enjoyed it and it certainly appeals to me more than the prequel films. I'd say it's my fourth favourite Star Wars film.
