So a bit of need to know before we begin.
If you ask me who the best actor in Hollywood is, I probably give you a different answer depending on the day and what I've seen on tv lately.
Ask me who the best actress ON THE PLANET is, I'll say the same every time. Tatiana Maslany.
For five seasons, she played a myriad of characters on the sci-fi master work, Orphan Black, including four of the seven lead characters and a slew of clones of the main character. She was so masterful at inhabiting the diverse cast of clones that I often found myself entirely forgetting that they were played by the same person. To this day I find it hard to believe that Cosima and Helena are played by the same person.
This high opinion of her talent and skill isn't just mine. She won an Emmy for her work on the show. Personally I think they should have given her two every season, one for her work as the lead actress and one for her work as supporting actress. I digress.
Fast forward a few years to today.
It has been announced that Maslany will play the lead in the upcoming Marvel live action series, She-Hulk. I literally shouted and fist pumped to my empty living room when I read this.
There is little detail at this point regarding such things as other cast members, overall show direction, production dates or even a potential release date.
Who cares!?!
The lead role is going to a superb actress who has VAST experience playing differing versions of a character, so the dual role of Jennifer Walters and her green, super-hero alter-ego is right in her wheel house. The She-Hulk character in the comics is not at all "PUNY HUMAN, HULK SMASH!" but much more sarcastic, funny and sexy while still smashing the bad guys. I think of her something like a big, green, grown up Buffy and in fact she has been voiced in animation by former Buffy alum Eliza Dushku in much that vein.
I look forward to another masterful performance and two more beautifully crafted characters in Maslany's arsenal and have fairly high confidence that Marvel will utilize her skills and bring us a great show!
