Speak of the Week V (circa 1967)

The death this week of Tim Conway has me digging out old Carol Burnett shows.  Somehow, I'm not surprised that one of the very early shows inspired this week's speak of the week.  It was one of those "you won't hear that these days" moments.

Carol is doing her famous Q&A segment.  The very first question comes from a young man in the middle of the audience.  He appears to be sitting with a young lady, but still actually asks Carol:

"Carol, what are your measurements?"

Seriously.  In today's environment, he wouldn't get an answer and would be lucky to get out of the theater without getting maced.

Carol's answer isn't the speak of the week but highlights just what a difference 50+ years make.

"38, 26, 30 and I won't say in what order."

Carol's very next move is to bring out hunky Lyle Waggoner, the show's handsome announcer and the future Steve Trevor to Lynda Carter's Wonder Woman.

After making a show of fawning over him, she asks the audience if they have any questions for him.

From way in the back, a deep male voice gives us the speak of the week:

"What's your measurements?"

Comedy gold.
