For all the handwringing, mine included, over the cancellation of Swamp Thing the one big worry is the potential loss of will to produce and fund DC Comics character projects that are less than mainstream.
I even wrote a post about it.
For the moment, Swamp Thing seems to be a one off. SyFy's current production of Krypton, a show that looks at a "what if" scenario where some of Superman's foes time travel to his home planet two generations before his birth and try to kill his grandfather, has added one very interesting character to season two. The season premier airs tonight and promises the introduction of a very popular "out of the box" character, the Main Man, Lobo.
Lobo is an intergalactic bounty hunter. Basically an anti-hero. Think Wolverine and Deadpool's baby in KISS makeup. Serious attitude, usually with a high body count and lots of humour.
The big news is that before season 2 even airs, before there's even a fan consensus on the actor in the makeup, SyFy has announced a spinoff for the character.
Perhaps my pearl clutching over the premature demise of Swamp Thing will come to exactly nothing.
Time travel will tell...
