Pondering GeriaTrek...

Star Trek - Picard.

I'm so torn here.  Sir Patrick Stewart is a phenomenal actor.  Jean Luc Picard is a beloved character.  Star Trek with a nearly 80 year old leading man is...concerning.

Here's my problem.  I'm not ageist.  I think with clever writing and direction, an octogenarian Star Trek character could believably be an active, vital lead on the show.  My issue is more practical.  I worry for Stewart's health and well being.

I assume that the studio will do everything they can to keep the man healthy and safe but television production is grueling even for younger people.  Sure, they make lots of money and have a cushy job but the hours are long, often in extended spurts.  It can be intense and even occasionally dangerous.

With any luck, we're going to get a great addition to the real (I will NEVER include the J.J.-verse movies in my Trek and have never and will never watch them) Trek canon and by the looks of the trailer, we will.  It's shaping up with a great reprisal cast and an interesting premise.  I just hope that they didn't wait ten years too long to play this Picard.
