And Speaking Of Whimsy...

My weekend morning ritual usually includes a couple of hours of cartoons before I (maybe) get on with my list of weekend chores.  Some people fish, some go to church, some garden.  My go to weekly reset is animated, usually a mix of old and new.  I love a LOT of what is happening in modern animation like Young Justice and Star Trek Lower Decks but I also have a soft spot for older cartoons.  This week I cracked into my set of Josie and the Pussycats, a wonderfully Scooby-Doo influenced spin off of the classic Archie comic characters.  Even the music feels like it would fit a classic Scooby chase scene.

I know I'm in a serious minority in my love of this kind of nostalgia but for me it's sort of comfort food for my brain, hearkening back to days when Saturday morning was about flannel pyjamas, cereal, toast and peanut butter spiced with hours and hours of cartoons.  I find that starting a weekend morning this way does a superb job of of putting me in a great mood for the rest of the day.

While I was digesting the Hanna-Barbera goodness that is Josie and the Pussycats, I was inspired to make a visit to Hero Forge...again.

So...whimsy.  Probably the best and most unexpected feature at Hero Forge is the ability to create characters that fall WAY outside the parameters I associate with traditional gaming.  Sure, you can easily and impressively create traditional Dungeons and Dragons characters:

And you can build characters for role playing games in the sci-fi genre:

I'm sure that's pretty much their original plan.  What makes the site special is that they didn't stop there.  You can do SO much more.  Like this:

You can not only create more kitschy characters like the Pussycats, you can even make up the supporting cast of Alan, Alexandra, Alexander and their cat Sebastian.

 So yeah, whimsy.

Happy Weekend, folks!
