So I just started into the the new Star Trek, that "Strange New Worlds" show I've mentioned.
It's actually a concept I pitched back when I first heard about the J.J. Abrams Star Trek that recast Kirk and the gang. Still haven't seen it, by the by and I never will.
Anyhow, I said at the time that instead of recasting, it would have been a better move to do "The Adventures of Captain Pike" and at the time I thought that the perfect guy was Ray Liotta. In his younger days, Liotta actually looked a LOT like Jeffery Hunter who played Pike on the original Trek pilot.
So it has come to pass. Sadly, they've gone down the road to recast a bunch of the original crew, but I can't have everything. I do like Anson Mount as Pike and I guess I'll just have to live with the new reality of Spock II (III, I guess) and so on.
None of that is what I'm interested in putting out there tonight though.
What I want the universe to start working on is another spin off. In the first moments we see Pike on the pilot, he's making breakfast for another Starfleet Captain, Captain Batel, played by Wynonna Earp star Melanie Scrofano. I would DEARLY love the universe to arrange a spin off following the adventures of Captain Batel. I'd also nominate pretty much the whole damned cast of Wynonna Earp to play her crew.
I have no doubt that Captain Batel could (and would) kick Pike up and down the block and seduce more space princes (and princesses, no doubt) than Kirk ever did, all while drinking Scotty under the table. The universe NEEDS Wynonna Earp In Space. I'd watch seven seasons of that.
