Superman For Congress!

When 42nd Congressional District of California Congressman-elect, Robert Garcia, is sworn into office, tucked under the copy of the U.S. Constitution that he will be placing his left hand on will be a couple of special items.

It's common for this swearing in ceremony to include various items beneath the copy of the Constitution such as family Bibles or historical texts borrowed from the Library of Congress.

In this case, Garcia will include his Citizenship Certificate, a photo of his late parents and a historical text borrowed from the Library of Congress.

A copy of Superman #1 from 1939.

I automatically trust this guy more than any other politician on the planet.

Garcia immigrated to the U.S. from Peru at the age of 5 and credits Superman and other comic books in helping him learn English.

In his words:

“Anyone who understands comics knows that comics are an essential part of American fiction, and the lessons learned are invaluable. It’s serious shit.”

Could not agree more.  It's taken my lifetime for us comics geeks to get there, but there we are.
