Last year at this time I was starting the process of levelling my backyard so I could lay a patio across the back wall of my house and around my rear porch.
If I had known how long and how difficult the project would be, I never would have started. My 22 year old brain looked at the 130 or so 2'x 2' patio stones and thought "Two or three weekends."
It took me all summer and if I had any foresight at all I would have bought stock in Tylenol. My 50+ year old body had a hell of a time cashing the cheque my in denial brain wrote.
Anyhow.
The whole point of the project was to put a chess board in the 18' space along the back wall of my house.
Fast forward to today and the payoff:
The chess set getting to my house is a saga unto itself, but it finally arrived and I spend a couple of hours this afternoon filling 32 plastic bases with 200 pounds of sand for ballast. Can't have my nice new set blowing into the neighbour's yard, now, can we?
Got a couple more projects this year, but no more heavy lifting for the most part. It seems my brain is finally coming to terms with the body it lives in...
