Can Anyone Tell Me...

...why MLB continues to use terms like "phantom runner" or "ghost runner" for the new(ish) rule that puts a runner at second base once extra innings begin?

RE-Runner.

He's the guy who made the last out in the previous inning REturning to the field to run the bases.

RE-Runner.

I named it that on the first time I saw it back in 2020 when the rule was adopted.  I just assumed the smart folks around the league would figure it out quickly, but I've never heard it on a single broadcast in 3 years.

RE-Runner.

It's so bloody obvious.
