...And The Carnage Continues...

If you've been stopping by the blog on anything like a regular basis of late, you'll be familiar with my current feeling/theory/fear that the peak moment of superhero cinema and television is either upon us or has just recently passed.  I think we're entering a trough in the dominance of superheroes both at the theater and on the small screen.  It's entirely possible the trough will be short lived and the genre will peak again but I'm increasingly convinced we're headed for a serious downturn.

The latest?

SyFy has officially cancelled Krypton and with it the announced but never realized spin-off for DC's Main Man, Lobo.  I can't say that the cancellation of a Superman show that doesn't feature Superman is entirely surprising but it's the loss of Lobo that really hurts.  Like Swamp Thing, those of us who know Lobo love Lobo but there just aren't enough Lobo lovers out there to warrant a show that would likely be very expensive to produce.

As for Krypton going forward, there are the usual "shopping to other network" rumblings and one would think that DC Universe might be the landing spot for a version of Krypton but I really would be surprised if that happened.  DC Universe has already shown that it's not really behind the less known corners of the DC Comics continuum.  I strongly suspect the 2020 season of Stargirl will be another one and done.

Krypton was not super.  Watchable but not super.  Pun intended.

Lobo would have been so damned cool.  Sigh.  Fraggin' Bastiches.
