There's Something Fishy Going On...

So, anyone who knows me is aware that I have a non-sexual man-crush on Jason Momoa.  Have had since his Stargate Atlantis days and I have always said he got a raw deal as Conan the Barbarian.  That movie was not good.  Years later he's STILL my first and only pick for the role in this generation.  I still hold out hope that his Game of Thrones performance and subsequently increased visibility and star power will convince someone to put him in a GREAT Conan film.

On to new business.  That "something fishy" I mentioned was a reference to director James Wan sending out notice that filming on Aquaman 2 has officially begun today.  The current schedule has the film dropping in December of 2022.

This is the second big DC film to get going this summer, with The Flash finally getting out of development hell and actually putting actors in front of cameras a few weeks ago.  While I absolutely cannot stand the guy they have playing Barry Allen/The Flash, the inclusion of Michael Keaton as an aged Bruce Wayne, the return (likely just a cameo) of Ben Affleck as another Bruce Wayne, a possible appearance by TV's Flash, Grant Gustin, the inclusion of a new version of Supergirl and the promise of a multi-verse adventure have me guardedly optimistic about the film.

While I'm lukewarm on The Flash, I'm pretty chuffed for Aquaman 2.  Just the fact that it's being made is one of those "nuh-uhn" things I would have said as recently as ten years ago.  One Aquaman film?  Not likely.  A sequel?  Not a chance in hell.  And yet...

So.  Two predictions here.  I'm not much on spoilers, as most know, but I don't think either of these qualify.

1.  At some point, Jason Momoa will take his shirt off.  Gym memberships for middle aged men will briefly spike.

2.  Aquaman will lose his hand.  He's been one handed in the comics on and off for decades.  It's actually one of the things that rescued the character from the C List of DC heroes back in the day.  You just don't make "talk to fish" jokes to this dude:

And honestly, I bet biggly that there will be at least one frame that DIRECTLY homages this art.  I can TOTALLY see Momoa rockin' this pose.

Likely shirtless.
