Guillermo del Toro Eating Disney's Lunch

Disney has lately spent as much or more time making live action versions of its classic animated tales than producing actual animation.  While their animated releases still tend to be pretty great, the live action stuff has been largely mediocre.  At least that's what I hear.  With the exception of Mulan, I have had zero interest in seeing any of the live action stuff they've made.  The Mulan story was one that I thought might translate pretty well to live action and it was a serviceable if not great movie.  The animated version is still the superior animal.

I'd bet that their "live action" (How live action is CGI anyhow?) Pinocchio will likely be only mediocre and not come close to the charm and joy of the original.

Then there's this:

While it's only a behind the scenes video, it already looks far more interesting and artistically made than the few stills I've seen from the upcoming Disney live action version.  I will definitely be checking it out.

If you're going to retell classic tales, maybe don't simply insert actors and CGI creations into lookalike copies of previously animated movies.  It's a neat concept once or twice but not something I'm interested in seeing an entire library of.  Just a thought.
