While My XBox 360 Collects Dust...

It was announced today that Sony's upcoming release of MLB The Show 23 is going to feature players from the Negro Leagues for the first time.

The inaugural line up, dubbed "Season 1"

They've selected 8 of the all time greatest players from the legendary Negro Leagues and are calling this "Season 1" with plans to add more stars from the Negro Leagues in each future release, with (I guess) MLB The Show 24 which will be "Season 2".

Weird though adding "Season" whatever to an already existing property is, I applaud their choice to include arguably some of the all time greatest baseball players in history.  Fans will at last get a chance to pit Satchel Paige against modern hitters or include Jackie Robinson on their fantasy team along side Fernando Tatis Jr..

I've never played MLB The Show, but pretty much the only "gaming" I like is whatever baseball game I used to have for my computer and one that I used to have for my old XBox.  I bought the XBox 360 once it became obsolete, reasoning that the games would be new to me, but I almost never used it.  Modern video games for properties I like are too complex and focus heavy to be relaxing, at least to me.  Batman - Arkham Asylum was so tricky I found myself hunched over the controller, sweating and swearing after only a few minutes playing the game.  Not what I'm looking for in entertainment.

This new lineup at MLB The Show might convince me to buy a Playstation Whatever someday.  Once the next console is released and the current one is no longer "in" and I can buy it cheap, that is.

I am disappointed that Josh Gibson didn't make the initial lineup.  He was the Negro Leagues answer to Babe Ruth and deserves a slot.  The thought of playing a lineup that includes Gibson, Satchel Paige and Jackie Robinson against a team of modern stars is a fan's dream come true, even if it is only in a video game.
