There was a point a year or so back where I had a streak of 8 movies in a row where at some point I had to tell some rude idiot to shut up.
I'm a big guy. I am not shy. I have no issue being the one to step up and tell those entitled types who think that a movie theater is their own private living room to shut their yaps. I'm fine with it.
But.
It's not getting better. Even here in oh so polite small town Canada, the theater talkers are taking over. It's getting worse.
I waited until X-Men Dark Phoenix was almost ready to depart theaters before laying down my money for a ticket. There were 5 other people in the theater. A couple behind me, a solo like me but down front and a pair of young-ish girls directly in front of me in the middle seat sweet spot.
Those two girls were chatting at just above a whisper for the whole damned movie, even after I asked them to stow it.
Not remotely the first time my movie night has been at least semi-ruined by a rude, selfish person or people who seem to not understand the concept of the theater experience.
So. Now what? This past week saw the release of a "me" movie, Spider-Man - Far from Home. This is one of those films that a self professed geek like myself really wants to see in a theater with the big screen and great sound. I'm not a 3D fan but it's gotten to the point that I don't even really mind the stupid glasses that much anymore.
So do I go or not? I'm truly torn. I want to see it before the plot gets accidentally spoiled for me by an article or post from someone who's seen it and assumes all the real fans have too. However. It's a fairly decent chuck of money to buy a ticket and then have that experience spoiled by the inevitable theater talkers.
I can tell 'em to shut up. I really can. I just don't know if I have the heart to bother anymore.
