It's only January and I'm pretty sure that this will still easily be the weirdest story of 2023. Fins down.
It seems that there's a popular YouTube channel where you can watch fish play video games.
Seriously.
The user has installed high end motion sensor technology that allows his pet fish to play his Nintendo Switch. More bizarre is that there are people who watch the fish do this on a live stream.
As hard to believe as all that is, it's not the story.
At some point recently, the guy who set all this up stepped away from the riveting spectacle of fish playing video games only to have things go really, really sideways.
Somehow, the system crashing and returning to the home screen while he was away allowed the fish to spend the next seven hours doing some very fishy stuff.
They managed to change the name on his account, log into the Nintendo store not once, but twice, get past the legal conditions section, set up a PayPal account which generated an e-mail to the owner AND charge his credit card about $4 and apparently expose his credit card details on the livestream.
Keep in mind, this is all being livestreamed and the audience is following the whole damned thing.
The whole story is here on CNN and you're welcome to read it and ponder our future under the rule of our wonderful finny overlords.
